Specialised professional services in the marine insurance sector

The company was a highly respected professional partnership based in the City of London, working in a claims advisory and dispute resolution role.

The primary area of activity was claims for ship repair following collisions, fires, machinery breakdowns and other accidents, but the business also dealt with a broad range of claims between shipowners, cargo owners and receivers, freight interests, marine insurers and re-insurers worldwide.

Traditional sources of instruction were drying up and the London insurance market was contracting and consolidating so the company saw an urgent need to expand marketing into new countries and to develop additional sources of revenue from existing markets and clients.

Services included the successful exploration and opening of new markets in Europe, Turkey, the Persian Gulf and South East Asia. In many cases both the company and the very profession itself were entirely unknown in these countries.

The local markets usually worked along very different lines and there was great sensitivity to London professionals seeking to change established business practices.

By taking the time to understand each country's traditions and varying degrees of local expertise, new markets were won at a time of global contraction in the profession generally.
